Version 1.0 Released!

After about a week of effort and another week of crying over Unreal Engine refusing to package a playable .exe file, I present to you Crit Fail as it was originally conceived!

Crit Fail started out as a game jam project, so, by necessity, I had to cut a ton of planned features in the interest of time. However, I always wanted to go back and polish things up just a bit and restore the biggest cut features. So, without further ado, here are the changes:

  • Improved skill check UI
  • Countdown timer beeps during the last few seconds
  • A player model that better fits the world
  • Your level of success opening doors now actually has an effect
  • New "wake up" skill check
  • The cars now move!
  • On a related note, the cars now have their own associated skill check
  • On a probably unrelated note, you can now die
  • Several optimization fixes and adjustments

I still can't guarantee the game is bug-free, but it should be better off than it was previously. This will probably be my last update barring any truly terrible bugs, but I still have a ton of ideas for possible ways to expand it (bank robberies! running errands! day/night cycle!). Maybe I'll come back around to this concept and truly flesh it out one day, but for the time being, I'm moving on to other projects. At this point, it's better for me to be making lots of different stuff than endlessly refining a single project.

If you actually cared enough to read all this, you have my undying gratitude! You're a pretty cool person.
